Healeys Printers, based in Ipswich, England, was established over 60 years ago as a stationer, but today they are a successful commercial printing company, employing 35 people and producing high quality marketing material and working with creative agencies and end users. Property for customers including national house builders, is a big market, and so is fine art catalogues. The company has worked hard in recent years to reduce its environmental impact and in 2022 it was the first SME printer in the UK to gain approval for its Science Based Targets (SBT) to reduce emissions.

The Challenge

“Healeys was already using an MIS system but felt it needed a more modern approach”, said Managing Director, Philip Dodd. He shared that the old system was not being improved and by bringing in a new system, with the current people on staff, they’d find a better response by bringing in modern technology. Dodd felt a cloud based system would also negate the need for a costly server update every few years, and allow better access 24 hours a day.

The Solution

“We chose printIQ not only for the system itself, but mainly the people involved and the enthusiasm shown for the product,” says Mr Dodd. “Also, contact with an early printIQ user was very valuable, via our BPIF membership. That user reference is incredibly useful in the decision making process.”

PrintIQ implemented the system during the pandemic which brought many challenges. “The adoption process was far longer than anticipated, mainly due to many absences, including multiple outbreaks of Covid and operational requirements,” Dodd shares. “The ongoing support was good and once we were working with an expanded team here, progress was more rapid. We went live in July and have spent much of the time since refining the system for our processes.”

The Business Impact

What benefits has he seen from printIQ so far?

“Estimates are much quicker, but far more importantly, we have greater transparency of costs and true pricing choices that tends to lead to improved pricing and profitability. It’s difficult to put actual figures on this, but it is definitely a result of the system.”

How would you sum up the experience of working with the printIQ team?

“Working with the team was very good and they were always supportive with encouragement. The ongoing support was also great, and once we were working with an expanded team here the progress was even more rapid.”
